Sculpture: Torso Study by JessicaDru Sculpture: Torso Study by JessicaDru
A very rough look at the male torso study i did this term. This sculpture took about 3 weeks, and was a LOT more difficult than the face. However, i am all kinds of happy with the knowledge i gleaned from this study. ^_^

Instructor: John Brown
Photographer: Brian Bossin

love to see an update on this fellow!

I FINALLY tore open my bag of clay and found that a tiny hole in the bag had allowed air in - cracked/flaky and bloody hard to use now. *sigh*

I'll buy some more in a few weeks and try over.

I left it in a bucket and it had over 120mm of rain over it... I didn't drain it for a week so I hope it is nice and soaked .... and not mouldy or anything.. lol

it's a great school. you don't happen to live n LA? if so, you should take a sculpture class at gnomon. ^_^

I live maybe 100 miles from LA. Gas alone would be a chunk. Maybe start saving up for it.

I have a fairly good handle on basic anatomy. But Im weak in crucial areas and Im really hungry for a level of excellence. Love that they are intensive as you said. I was planing to try an escorche figure on my own using just Bruno Lucchesis book as a guide. Dont know how that will work or if I will end up instilling bad habits. Im also eagerly waiting for the "freedom of teach" dvd!

You mean the John Brown DVDs? How are they for mastering all the finer nuances of anatomy? I have been interested in them except that they seem to focus on superhero or creatures which Im less interested in right now.

Ok I will order that one since I sculpt alot of females. Thanks I am preping to sculpt some male figures in the future, but the defined muscle is alot trickier to have look natural.

You've such an expressive talent! In all your works, there is such an energy that I can't seem to find in my own... and so desperately seek.

Your classes are helping you improve in bringing that life into your work so much more. I am indeed in awe of your abilities.

Thank you for saying so. the best way to get energy and dynamic stuff is to pull as much as you can from live reference. i can't think of anythign else that has helped me nearly as much!

Agreed. I think I need to just draw more from live references... been playing around with the art inside my head for so long, I've forgotten some of the most basic things.

Thanks, Jessica. :D
